Police Hunting Down the Duren Sawit Bomb Hoax Spreader

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police are still hunting down the person responsible for spreading the Duren Sawit bomb hoax which spread in the midst of a series of suicide bomb attacks on Monday.
According to Police Spokesman Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto, police’s cybercrime unit has already commenced a thorough investigation, “We are searching for the spreader, the Communication and Informatics Ministry has warned about hoax spreaders right?” said Setyo yesterday.

According to Setyo, police are not only hunting down hoax spreaders, but also the people who spread gore pictures or videos related to the Surabaya bombing tragedy through social media. He maintained that these individuals can be charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.
“What they are doing causes public unrest,” said Setyo.

Previously reported, the Duren Sawit Police Chief Comm. T.H. Simatupang said that he had received three reports related to the bomb threat at the Santa Anna Church in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, and followed-up the information by mobilizing a bomb squad to the location as a safety measure.
After the bomb squad searched the Santa Anna Church, police concluded that the information was indeed a hoax.
