TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pelita Air with flight number IP 205 from Surabaya heading to Jakarta was delayed over a bomb threat hoax by one of its passengers.
The information was confirmed by the General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Juanda International Airport Sisyani Jaffar in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023.
"Following that [threat], the plane was directed to an isolated parking area for a further inspection by officers of Juanda airport," he said.
Turned out, there was no bomb threat.
The Secretary of PT Pelita Air Service Agdya P.P. Yogandari clarified that the hoax was spread at around 12:30 p.m. local time.
"Us and the security team conducted an investigation and found that the source of the bomb threat prank was a passenger on the IP 205 plane, Surya Hadi Wijaya, with seat number 14A," Agdya said in a statement.
Agdya explained that the joke was said while the plane headed to the runway. "The security team cooperated with the airport officers to conduct a thorough inspection of the plane, the passengers, baggage, and luggage," she said.
IP 205 plane resumed operation at 6 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, the passenger behind the poorly thought-out joke was secured and taken into custody by POM Juanda Airport.
