Kominfo Says Over 24mn Participates in Digital Literacy Program Throughout 2017-2023

9 January 2024 09:13 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Nezar Patria said that over 24,640,451 people have participated in the improvement of the digital literacy program through the National Movement of Digital Literacy (GNLD) from 2017 to the end of 2023.

"Together with 142 partners with various backgrounds such as academics, tech companies, and civil organizations, the digital literacy program has been participated by 24,640,451 people across Indonesia until the end of 2023," he said in a press release on Monday.

The GNLD program strengthens the basic digital capability of the citizens to prevent the spread of negative content and to create a productive digital space.

Through the digital literacy program, the Kominfo Ministry pushes the citizens to increase their digital literacy, especially its four pillars; digital capability, digital security, digital culture, and digital ethics.

"Those four pillars are presented through various modules and workshops, and other methods of teaching by GNLD which are open to the public," Nezar said.

Digital literacy has various benefits, the vice minister said. Those include the rise of technology adoption in public services, economic activities, digital inclusion, citizen democratic participation, and accelerating the development of human and economic resources.

"However, we still have quite the homework. In 2022, Indonesia's digital literacy rate was at 3.54 out of 5.00, a medium," he said.

According to Nezar, improving digital literacy still has several challenges, including unequal access to digital infrastructure, the spike in the flow of information, and the number of negative content or hoaxes.

Nezar also explained that from 2018 until Jan. 6, 2024, the Kominfo Ministry has taken down 4,506,749 negative content and released clarification for 928 general elections-related hoaxes.
