BMKG: Quakes Hit Ambon for 88 Times

TEMPO.CO, Ambon - Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that as many as 88 tectonic quakes hit the city of Ambon since Tuesday until today, Nov. 1.
BMKG's head of data and information in Ambon Andi Azhar Rusdin said three of the recorded quakes occurred within a narrow timeframe before the main 6.2 Richter scale quake hit the region.

The centers of the quakes were at the depth of 10 kilometers, 38 kilometers, and 37 kilometers southwest of Ambon.
"Since Tuesday night until today at 11 am, it is recorded that as many as 88 quakes occurred in Ambon," he said Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The quakes were caused by the rising fault in the south of the island. According to Andi, the fault is still active and potential to cause tremors. It is recorded until today at 2 p.m. local time, a 3.1 magnitude quake hit Ambon.
The quakes left a number of buildings damaged, including the wall and ceilings of Pattimura Airport and Maluku City Mall.
