TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that the government still wants to keep Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to perform a battle against corruption.

"Government wants to keep KPK and to make it even stronger. If KPK is to be suspended, then amendment to the law needs to be carried out," Vice President said during his visit to Astana, Kazakhstan on Saturday (9/9).

Government needs to maintain independence, he continued, and does not want to interfere with KPK internal affairs. The institution is expected to resolve issues and stay in coordination.

"Government cannot interfere internal affairs, KPK has its own procedures as regulated by the law," he added.

The House of Representatives’ Inquiry Committee (Pansus Hak Angket KPK) previously declared 11 points as a result of their inquiry on KPK’s responsibilities and authorities.

The House’s Inquiry Committee member Hendry Yosodiningrat stated that the committee has to convince the government and the people that the results of their investigation require immediate attention and correction.

That is why, he believed, anyone will accept the committee’s recommendation, one of which to return KPK’s authority to the Police and the Supreme Court.

"Since the authorities of KPK’s duties are one part the authority of the police as investigator and the other part is that of the prosecutor," he explained.
