TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian border community called Komunitas Perbatasan 17 held a flag raising ceremony at the Indonesian - Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL) border post No 29, located in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
The flag-raising ceremony was conducted with the Oepoli Navy Post, Indonesian-RDTL border security task force, police, students, and public figures that live in the vicinity of the Oepoli border.
The event that was held roughly 200 meters from the actual border is meant to welcome Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day held on August 17.
It is also meant to plant a sense of nationalism towards Indonesia’s youth and general society living in the vicinity of the border.
Oepoli is a region that directly connects between Indonesia and Timor-Leste which still has several disputed areas by both countries.
