TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi claims that the country's economy and politics are doing well. The head of state urged ministries and institutions to be more competitive in the face of global uncertainty.

"Thank God, we should be grateful, Indonesia's economy and politics are very stable," Jokowi said while delivering a speech at the Submission of Audit Results Report on the 2023 Central Government Financial Report at the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan, on Monday, July 8.

Jokowi said Indonesia's economy managed to grow by 5.11 percent in the first quarter. The former Jakarta governor also said that Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Home Affairs always ensure inflation is kept in check in every region

"Moreover, the election process went well. These are all basic foundations for the development of our country," Jokowi said.

The general election was heavily scrutinized by the public over accusations of Jokowi's interference in the presidential race. Jokowi is rumored to have ensured that his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, could run as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate by having the Constitutional Court, then headed by Anwar Usman - Gibran's uncle and Jokowi's brother-in-law - change the rules on the age limit for candidates.

Jokowi and the palace have repeatedly denied any interference with the court. The decision on the presidential election dispute also stated that there was no interference by Jokowi, although it issued an ethical note regarding Prabowo-Gibran's victory.

In his remarks in Senayan this morning, Jokowi underlined the need for the government to boost global competitiveness to maintain economic and political stability. The former Jakarta governor said he hoped to achieve structural reform by simplifying procedures. "To be more efficient and result-oriented," he said

Jokowi also asked for support from all components of the nation to maintain sustainability to bring progress to the country and hopes for a smooth transition process.

President Jokowi will be replaced by Gerindra chairman and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in October 2024. The former Solo mayor is confident that the new administration led by Prabowo will pay serious attention to the BPK's recommendations, just as he did in his years in office.
