TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Immigration Director-General Silmy Karim announced that the Golden Visa program has garnered significant interest, attracting 500,000 applicants and generating approximately Rp4 trillion in investments since its launch on July 25, 2024.
“It will have a direct or indirect positive impact on the national economy,” he said in the 111th online discussion of The Indonesian Forum (TIF) on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Silmy explained that the majority of applicants are individuals seeking to invest in the banking sector through instruments such as savings and bonds.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo launched the Golden Visa on July 25, 2024, and symbolically handed over the first Golden Visa to renowned Indonesian national soccer team coach, Shin Tae-yong. He stressed the importance of selectivity in granting the visas to ensure that only high-quality individuals benefit from the program.
The Golden Visa offers various advantages for those seeking to invest and work in Indonesia. However, Jokowi cautioned against admitting individuals who pose a threat to national security or fail to contribute positively to the country.
After the launch, Silmy emphasized that the Immigration office would focus on attracting foreign investors and global talents.
