Gibran Rakabuming Visits UK; Promotes Investment in Various Sectors

Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka embarked on a working visit to the UK, as he was invited by the Indonesian Embassy in the country.

“He departed last Saturday, [and will be in the UK] until Sunday (March 10),” said Vice Surakarta Mayor Teguh Prakosa in Solo, on Monday, March 4, 2024.

He admitted to not knowing the details of Gibran’s working visit. “I don’t know, but exploring cooperation may be one of them,” he said.

House Denies Possible Direct Appointment of Future Jakarta Governor; Regional Election Will Persist

Vice Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad denied the reports of the direct appointment of Jakarta’s regional head. He stressed that Jakarta governors will still be elected by residents going forward through regional elections.

“So, information saying Jakarta governors are appointed through mechanisms other than an election is all false,” he said as quoted by Antara on Jakarta, Sunday, March 3, 2024.

Dasco asked all parties to refrain from giving false information or hoaxes. According to him, both the government and political parties aimed to hold the Jakarta gubernatorial election this November.

Teachers Urge Govt Not to Use Education Budget for Free Lunch Program

Teachers' association P2G has urged the government not to use education budgets, including the School Operational Assistance (BOS), to support the proposed free lunch program.

"P2G strongly disagrees with using BOS funds for the free lunch program," said Iman Zanatul Haeri, P2G's Head of Teacher Advocacy, in a statement on Sunday.

He emphasized that the program should not be funded using these resources, which are currently used to pay teachers' salaries.
