TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) required around Rp9 trillion to procure KRL commuter line trainsets slated to start operation next year.

Vice President of Corporate Secretary Anne Purba said the funding will cover procurement of KRL manufactured and retrofitted by PT INKA, and new KRL sets from China.

The funding will come from KAI Commuter loans, shareholder loans from PT KAI, and government aid through state equity participation (PMN). "We have applied for a Rp3.5 trillion loan from KAI Commuter, we also have a shareholder loan from KAI of Rp800 billion, and the rest are from PMN at around Rp5-5.5 trillion," Anne said during a press conference on Tuesday.

Anne explained that the budget will be used to finance 16 new KRL trainsets currently being manufactured by PT IKNA, 19 KRL trainsets retrofitted by PT INKA, and 3 imported KRL trainsets from China. There was also a plan to add 8 more new trainsets. "The budget will constantly changes [based on] the currency," she said.

The procurement agenda is intended to facilitate the spike in passengers who reached one million a day. The government, she went on, is targeting two million people KRL capacity by 2025 to tackle air pollution and decrease traffic jams.

Earlier, PT KCI inked a transactional contract to purchase 3 KRL trainsets from CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd on January 31 in Beijing, China amounted to Rp783 billion.
