TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) confirmed that it will be conducting patrols at diverse places during the cooling-off days of the 2024 general elections, which will begin on Sunday, Feb. 11.
“The patrol during the silence period [will be executed] by all official levels and existing stakeholders,” Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja said in Jakarta on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
The collaboration aims to anticipate the possible occurrence of money politics after the 75-day campaign period. “Communities and traditional leaders are expected to prevent money politics, and [the cooperation will also be held] with the police and PP Satpol (Public Order Agency) to clean up the campaign attributes,” Rahmat explained.
The KPU had set out the stages of the 2024 general elections that participants must adhere to. The cooling-off day period will last for three days until Feb. 13, before the voting day on February 14.
Earlier, Lolly Suhenty, a coordinator of Bawaslu’s Prevention, Community Participation, and Public Relations Division, called on the Bali regional officials to beef up the supervision of the election campaign process leading to the end of the campaign period on Feb. 10.
“We need to improve the quality of our campaign supervision,” Lolly said at the election coordination meeting in Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali, on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
She also urged officials to proactively prepare measures and map potential problems in their respective areas during the cooling-off period in order to ensure a fair and smooth election process.
