5 Cases of Alleged Election Violations by Prabowo-Gibran Camp

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate pair number 02, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, along with their national campaign team, have been reported to the Elections Supervisory Commission (Bawaslu) multiple times for alleged election violations. 

There have been five reported cases of campaign violations involving Prabowo-Gibran and their campaign team, which have been addressed by Bawaslu. Here are the details of each case:

1. Defense Ministry’s X account mishap

On January 23, the Civil Coalition for Clean Elections reported Prabowo for alleged election violations. This was after the Defense Ministry's X account @Kemhan_RI posted photos of houses for the Indonesian Military soldiers on Jan. 21 with hashtags including #PrabowoGibran2024.

The allegation of electoral fraud arose as this was seen as support for Prabowo-Gibran on the ministry's social media account, which was believed to be a violation of Article 280 of the General Elections Law.

2. Rp15 billion capital injection for the Mitra Digital Sejahtera (MDS) cooperative

Prabowo distributed Rp15 billion capital support to the MDS cooperative when he attended the cooperative's national assembly in Purwakarta, West Java, in December 2023.

As reported by antarnews.com on December 19, 2023, the TKN chairman Rosan Roeslani said his side would follow the investigation process in Bawaslu. He claimed that Prabowo had good intentions in promoting cooperatives, which he believed could be a source of economic support for people in rural areas.

3. Prabowo-Gibran stickers on Bulog’s rice package for social assistance 

Bulog’s rice package in social assistance Jokowi went viral on social media X as it has Prabowo-Gibran stickers attached to it. The 5-kilogram rice in plastic bags is the government's rice reserve for the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program.

Meanwhile, Bawaslu claimed to have not found any facts regarding the distribution of social food aid. The agency’s chair Rahmat Bagja said on Jan. 29, that what needed to be investigated were the photos spread on social media platforms, particularly the location.

4. Money politics in Tasikmalaya

The Prabowo-Gibran Regional Campaign Team (TKD) chairman, Ridwan Kamil, was reported to Bawaslu by the West Java PDIP member for allegedly giving money to people on the stage during the Tasikmalaya Consultative Body (BPD) event. He also campaigned for Prabowo-Gibran on the stage.

5. Violation of Campaign Zoning Policy

Recently, the campaign team of candidate pair number 3, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md, accused the Prabowo-Gibran campaign team of claiming their campaign quota in Subang, West Java, on January 27 and in Majalengka, East Java, on January 21.

The presidential election will take place on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Three pairs of presidential and vice presidential hopefuls are running in the race. They are Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar (1), Prabowo Subianto - Gibran Rakabuming (2), and Ganjar Pranowo - Mahfud Md (3).
