TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Authorities sent 30 fire trucks on Saturday morning, Oct. 21, to put up the fire that has been blazing Rawa Kucing Landfill in Tangerang since yesterday afternoon.

"A lot of firefighter units have been deployed and the addition of heavy machines to stop the fire from spreading," said the head of communication of Tangerang City Administration, Mualim, on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023.

Mualim said 24 firefighter units from Tangerang, 2 from Angkasa Pura II and South Tangerang, 2 from Banten, and 2 from Jakarta. "In addition, there are 24 water tanks, 10 heavy machinery, and an ambulance."

According to Mualim, until today, the fire is still blazing despite not as big as it was on Friday. "The fire still occurs in several spots. Therefore, joint officers are still attempting to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading," he explained.

It is feared that the fire will disrupt flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as the landfill fire still produces thick smoke. "Moreover, the distance between the landfill and Soekarno-Hatta Airport runway is only 2.5 kilometers," said Mualim.
