Jokowi in South Sulawesi to Inaugurate Trans Sulawesi Train

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has flown to Makassar, South Sulawesi today, March 29. One of his work agendas is to inaugurate the first phase of operation of the Trans Sulawesi Railway on the Makassar City-Parepare route, which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN).

This was confirmed by the head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, when Tempo contacted him on Wednesday.

The Makassar-Parepare railway is 142 Km in length. It is part of the Trans Sulawesi railway project, which will connect all provinces on the island. Jokowi is later scheduled to join the trial rise from Maros Railway Depot to Rammang-Rammang Station.

The Makassar-Parepare train project began development in 2015. The railway will connect five regencies/cities in South Sulawesi: Maros Regency, Pangkajene and Islands Regency, Barru Regency, Makassar City, and Parepare City.

Not only for public transportation, the Makassar-Parepare train will also support logistics distribution as it passes several ports and cement industrial areas in South Sulawesi.

On the first day of his visit to South Sulawesi, Jokowi will also visit Makassar City, Maros Regency and East Luwu Regency. In each of these locations Jokowi will distribute direct cash assistance to locals and market traders.
