TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta administration along with management of the Buddhist temple Dharma Bhakti during the Muslim month of Ramadan has held communal iftar or breaking fast for local communities, which organizers deemed a move to strengthen interfaith tolerance.
"This is an activity held at the temple. A collaboration between the management of the temple and Taman Sari District" said the Head of Taman Sari sub-district, Agus Sulaiman on Tuesday, March 28, Antaranews reported.
Each day organizers would distribute 300-350 food packets to the local community. “There are no coupons, all of the food is shared freely,” he said.
According to Agus, the activities on the first day of the iftar’s food distribution went in an orderly manner as a myriad of local residents lined up queueing for food at the Dharma Bhakti Temple. He hopes that the sense of religious tolerance in the Taman Sari sub-district will only grow stronger.
"This fosters the values of tolerance and mutual respect between religious communities in the midst of a pluralistic society in the Taman Sari sub-district," he asserted.
