TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that two minor earthquakes can be felt at two locations: Jayapura in Papua and Wonosobo in Central Java. Data gathered from field equipment suggest both of them originated from land.
The earthquake striking Dieng in Wonosobo occurred on Friday, March 17, 2023, at noon and was measured at Magnitude 2.2 on the Richter scale. Meanwhile, the other quake that struck Jayapura was recorded at M3.1 scale.
“There have yet been any reports of damages caused by the earthquake,” said the BMKG head of tsunami and earthquake Daryono.
The agency said the epicenter of the 2.2 magnitude quake came 17 kilometers northwest of Wonosobo Sea and from a depth of 7 kilometers. BMKG also detected a couple of weaker aftershocks in this region.
The earthquake in Jayapura occurred at 15:13 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) which came from 13 kilometers northwest of Sorong City and came from a depth of 11 kilometers.
