TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the use of bamboo for the construction of the Formula E circuit in Ancol would actually strengthen the race track. Riza said the bamboo would be able to absorb the water content in the soft soil on the Ancol beach.

“It is strong, it actually strengthens it (the race track),” said Riza at the Jakarta City Hall, Friday, March 11.

He added using bamboo as the foundation did not necessarily mean that the construction of the track did not use stone underneath. With bamboo as a construction material, the track becomes better and more permanent.

According to him, the bamboo was also only used in certain areas that contain soft soil.

As an engineer from the Jakarta National Institute of Science and Technology (ISTN), Riza also mentioned that the use of bamboo as a construction material is common, especially for construction projects in riverside areas.

The Formula E circuit was targeted to complete in April. The international electric car racing event was slated to be held on June 4, 2022.
