TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The widespread flooding forced the Palangka Raya city government to declare a state of emergency on Monday, November 15. It was recorded that 17 sub-districts were inundated.

“We are waiting for the results of the meeting with related parties for the details,” said Palangka Raya Mayor Fairid Naparin on Monday.

The determination of the emergency status which is valid until November 25 is due to the rising floodwaters up to one meter high in various locations.

According to Farid, the city administration has set up evacuation posts at a number of points such as elementary school buildings, health community centers, and markets.

Head of Palangka Raya Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Emi Abriyani explained that the flood-hit 17 sub-districts are spread over four districts, namely Bukit Batu, Pahandut, Sebangau, and Jekan Raya. “During the past four days, the floods hit a number of areas at varying heights,” he said.

The Central Kalimantan Regional Police also asked residents not to pass the Trans Kalimantan Road in Bukit Rawi, Central Kahayan District, Pulang Pisau Regency since the floodwaters are getting higher up to almost one meter due to continuous rain showers for the past week.
