TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil called on regents, mayors, and the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency to brace for floods and landslides. “I have appealed to the regional governments, regents/mayors, and heads of BPBD to stay alert during this rainy season,” he said on Wednesday, November 10.

Ridwan said the provincial areas are susceptible to floods and landslides during this rainy season, particularly sloping areas. He also asked the public to stop littering.

“Floods potentially occur due to waste that clogs in water channels. Let’s keep hygiene to reduce the potential for flooding,” he asserted.

According to the governor, the government is also striving to minimize the potential in a number of locations. In Greater Bandung, for example, the government built retention ponds in areas near Citarum River.

“The construction of the retention ponds will be completed in the next two months so as to assist the Cieunteung retention pond. We still face floods but the water volume has decreased a lot,” Ridwan Kamil added.

In the past week, West Java areas were hit by floods and landslides. West Java BPBD reported a landslide occurred on Tuesday afternoon, November 9, in Giriluyu Village of Bandung Regency, damaging one residential house.
