Jakarta Preps 1,262 Flood Evacuation Sites

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Sabdo Kurnianto said the provincial government had prepared 1,262 evacuation sites as preparations to anticipate flooding. “And supporting facilities such as refugee tents, public kitchens, and other supporting logistics in flood-prone areas,” said Sabdo in Monas area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 13.

The evacuation site could accommodate 105,804 people.

The city administration today held a ceremony to prepare for the rainy season led by Governor Anies Baswedan.

Governor Anies said Jakarta had installed rain gauges in 267 urban villages so that the public could acknowledge rain conditions in their area.

The city administration, he added, had also made various efforts to deal with the rainy season. Among them are the revitalization of reservoirs and pumps, the Grebek Lumpur or mud dredging program in five areas of Jakarta, and optimizing the JAKI application as a citizen report canal.

Jakarta would also use pantaugunung.jakarta.go.id portal as a medium for flood information, early warning system via SMS blast, and free emergency call center service of Jakarta Siaga 112.
