TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ruling on the legal challenges to the results of the 2024 Presidential Election lodged by two candidate pairs, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md, is set to be read out at the Constitutional Court or MK today, April 22. The court’s spokesperson, Fajar Laksono, said that his side had coordinated with the Indonesian Police to bolster security around the court.
He explained that the access road to the MK Building would be closed, and the police will divert traffic at several roads to the building, which is located on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta. He also mentioned that police personnel will be deployed around the courthouse and within the courtroom.
“There will be layers of security, starting from around the access road to the Constitutional Court to the building itself, including the courtroom,” Fajar said at the Constitutional Court building in Central Jakarta on Sunday, April 21.
However, he refused to elaborate on the exact security measures that will be in place during the decision hearing. “What is certain is that we want to ensure that the trial can proceed smoothly without any disruptions and in an orderly manner,” he said.
He emphasized the significance of the hearing, which is a crucial constitutional agenda and will have a significant impact on the next Indonesian government. Therefore, he requested the public to maintain order.
“We are coordinating with the police not to prevent people from coming to the Constitutional Court but to ensure that tomorrow's (Monday’s) hearing goes smoothly and in an orderly manner,” he said.
Fajar also confirmed that the police had beefed up security for the eight judges of the Constitutional Court, namely Suhartoyo, Saldi Isra, Arief Hidayat, Enny Nurbaningsih, Daniel Yusmic Pancastaki Foekh, M. Guntur Hamzah, Ridwan Mansyur, and Arsul Sani.
