TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian search and rescue team is looking for a teenage hiker who was reported missing at Mount Guntur, Garut Regency, West Java, on September 20. The group he went trekking with had not been able to find the 14-year-old hiker since the day before.

Bandung's SAR Office chief, Deden Ridwansyah, said that a rescue team has been deployed along with other officers for the mission.

The missing hiker is Muhammad Gibran Arrasyid (14) from Citangtu Village, Garut. He went to hike Mount Guntur's trail with a group consisting of 11 males and three females on Saturday afternoon last week.

The group pitched their tents after arriving at Post 3 and spent the night there before continuing to reach the summit on the next day. But Gibran and two female hikers decided not to go and stayed in Post 3.

"When his friends returned from the summit, the 'survivor' was not in his tent. They looked for him on Sunday until 17:00 but he was not found," Deden Ridwansyah said.

According to the Tarogong Kaler Police chief, First Insp. Masrokan, officers were also sent to search Muhammad Gibran. He said that the field team had difficulties during the first day's search because of bad weathers and heavy rain.

As of Monday evening, the teen hiker had not been found.
