TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China's electric car manufacturer, WM Motor Technology Co Ltd, is ready to play in Indonesia's market. Through PT WM Motor Asia Pacific, the company will bring the Weltmeister in 2022, which would be the first electric car brand available for the Indonesian automotive market.

"[The car] will be launched in the near future, in 2022, with products matched to the market conditions and the regulations that support electric vehicles," Yedi Yunadi Sondy, director & CEO of WM Motor Asia Pacific, told Tempo on Thursday, September 2.

The first electric car to launch is the Weltmeister W5—also known as the EX5. An electric SUV is considered fitting to the Indonesian market, given its five-seat configuration.

"We prioritize the SUV model taking into account the Indonesian market taste, the contours of the road and nature, as well as aspects of practicality and functionality," Yedi said.

The Weltmeister W5 electric SUV runs on an electric drive module that generates 218 PS and 315 Nm of torque, powered by a 52.5 kWh battery that can go as far as 400 kilometers.

The car also comes equipped with a range of Bosch L2 ADAS features, including a high-resolution front camera, three mid-range millimeter wave radars, and a 360-degree camera system.

The Weltmeister W5 was first introduced at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. In China, the electric SUVs are marketed for a price between Rp309 million and Rp419 million.
