TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Ministry Secretary-General Oscar Primadi said the government was determined to complete the COVID-19 vaccinations for all this year's would-be hajj pilgrims in May.

“Based on the scheme, we can ensure that inshallah the vaccinations for Indonesian pilgrims will finish by May so there will be no doubt,” said Oscar in a joint meeting with the Religious Affairs Ministry, the Transportation Ministry, and the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, March 15.

Oscar explained the vaccine will be given to those who have paid off the 2020 hajj travel cost (BPIH). In detail, 57,630 elderly people will be vaccinated in March-April, while 115,160 non-elderly people in April-May.

The vaccination scheme for hajj pilgrims will be included in the national scheme. At present, the government is carrying out vaccinations for 17.4 million public service workers and 21.5 million elderly people, including prospective pilgrims.

Oscar mentioned that hajj pilgrims willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccines were only required to bring an ID card and a proof of BPIH payment. The inoculation can be carried out at the nearest health center or hospital. “We hope the vaccinations for would-be pilgrims can run based on schedule,” he said.
