Thousands of Minority Pilgrims Celebrate Eid al-Fitr Early in Aceh

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of Thariqat Syattariah pilgrims in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province, celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri on Monday morning. They performed the Eid prayer at the Peuleukung Mosque, Peuleukung Village, East Seunagan District.
"Differences in Eid al-Fitr day among the people in Nagan Raya Regency are common," said the Head of the Islamic Sharia Office of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, H Wahidin, as quoted by Antara, Monday, April 8, 2024.
According to him, the difference in Eid al-Fitr among Muslims in the area has been going on for generations. Nevertheless, Wahidin explained, the Muslim community in the region is harmonious, safe, and respectful.
"The difference in Eid celebration is only a matter of belief, and the people of Nagan Raya have been very understanding thus far," Wahidin said.
Meanwhile, the Naqsabandiyah pilgrims have also held Eid prayers in Surau Baru, Pauh, Padang, West Sumatra Province today. Tareqat Naqsabandiyah determined the first of Shawwal 1445 Hijri using the hisab Munjid method, a 30-day calculation from the beginning of fasting used for generations.
Previously, the pilgrims of the Aolia Mosque in Gunungkidul had also celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Friday, April 5, 2024. The pilgrims performed Eid prayers at the hall of the house of their Imam, Ibnu Hajar Pranolo or Mbah Benu at 06:00 a.m. local time. Some members of the pilgrims also performed Eid prayers at Aolia Mosque, located 30 meters away from the house.
