TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin warmly welcomed the visit of Saudi Arabian Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, to the Vice President's Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 30.
Tawfiq and his entourage arrived at approximately 13:30 Jakarta time. A spokesperson for the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi, stated that Ma'ruf conveyed his gratitude for the excellent partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, particularly the increase in this year’s hajj quota by 20,000 to a total of 241,000, which is the highest in the country's history.
“If there is a continuous increase in the current quota, it is hoped that it will alleviate the burden for the Indonesian government in the next 5–10 years,” Masduki said at the Vice President's office.
The Saudi Arabian delegation's stay in Indonesia will be from April 29 to May 2, 2024. During the visit, the Hajj and Umrah Minister would meet with VP Ma'ruf Amin, attend a special meeting with Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, visit the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and participate in a workshop on health regulations during the hajj season 1445 Hijri.
To date, no statement has been released by Saudi Arabia and Minister Tawfiq concerning their meeting with Ma'ruf Amin and their visit to Indonesia.
