TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Acting Head Sabdo Kurnianto announced that 34 districts located near the banks of the Ciliwung River are prone to flood. He called on residents living around the river banks to anticipate potential flooding ahead of the peak of the rainy season in February.

"There are 35 flood-prone districts, not in all areas but those near the Ciliwung river banks," said Sabdo at the City Hall on Thursday, January 28.

The city government had conducted simulations to deal with potential disasters and provided shelters, he added. The number would be increased by two or three times in a bid to ensure that evacuees could implement the health protocols amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the evacuees would be obliged to pass a rapid antigen test in the evacuation posts. The Jakarta administration ensured that logistics would be sufficient to mitigate potential disasters.

"We are committed [to mitigate this], and the social service has prepared the logistics," he added.

Sabdo further reminded that apart from flooding, several regions of the capital city are vulnerable to landslides, particularly areas along the river in South Jakarta. “We also ask residents to stay alert of landslides,” he underlined.
