TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government’s policy to restrict community activities (PPKM) in Garut Regency, West Java was prolonged. However, the local administration was determined to reopen tourist destinations for the public under stringent rules, including a limited number of visitors.

“Yes, it's opened but the number of visitors is limited,” said the region's Tourism and Culture Agency Head Budi Gan Gan on Monday, Jan. 25.

All tourist sites that were reopened would be under strict supervision to ensure that predetermined health protocols against Covid-19 were implemented. The regional government would also impose sanctions on violators as stipulated in a circular of Garut Regent. “I'm waiting for the Regent's circular, it hasn't been issued yet,” said Budi.

Regent Rudy Gunawan confirmed that the government extended the PPKM until February 8, 2021, in an effort to curb coronavirus transmission. However, tourist attractions were allowed to open under the health protocols during the extended policy, such as limiting the number of visitors to 25 percent of the total capacity.

Rudy also called on the public to travel to Garut and comply with the PPKM regulations, including avoiding crowds and maintaining distance. The local government, he added, would set up several posts to carry out rapid antigen tests for tourists in several sites.
