TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Water and Air Police Corps on Monday announced that it has discovered more debris and body parts strongly believed to be from the Sriwijaya Air SJ182 that had crashed into the waters of the Thousand Islands chain.

“We have swept the area heading towards yesterday’s established location and found again some debris and a number of body parts,” said the Corp’s Director, Brig. Gen. Yassin Kosasih in a press conference aboard police vessel Bisma 8001 on Monday, January 11.

He asserted that the main challenge in the first day of the evacuation process of the victims of flight SJ182 was strong underwater currents, which have caused extremely low visibility underwater.

“However, the weather is clearer now, which broadened the visibility and many more pieces of evidence were discovered compared to yesterday,” said Yassin Kosasih.

Dozens of rescue personnel from the National Police Headquarters, the Search and Rescue, the Water and Air Police Corps, and the Mobile Brigade have been launched to the location believed to be within the range of the first impact where Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 crashed on Saturday, January 9.
