TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo recorded that public compliance with traffic regulations has increased in areas where e-ticketing CCTV cameras as part of the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (E-TLE) are installed.

“So E-TLE has been proven to increase public discipline. Indonesian citizens, particularly people in the Jakarta area, fear to commit violations especially in areas with traffic cameras,” said Sambodo at the Cikunir 2 Toll Gate, Bekasi, Friday, October 30, 2020.

However, Sambodo stopped short of detailing the drop in traffic violations following the installment of the E-TLE cameras. He explained that his side had asked for more cameras from the city administration.

“We submitted a proposal to the Jakarta administration to increase the budget in 2021 yesterday, for at least 57 cameras. It will be remarkable if there are 100 additional cameras,” Sambodo said.

The police planned to install E-TLE cameras on Transjakarta routes and toll roads in a bid to prevent people from crossing the special bus lanes, he added.

The E-TLE cameras were first operated by Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate on November 1, 2018, targeting cars. As of November 2019, the 17 cameras caught 54,074 violations.
