TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Motorcycle riders who often illegally pass the overpass on Jalan Casablanca will soon be caught by electronic ticket cameras.
The Jakarta Police’s Traffic Directorate’s director Sr. Comr. Yusuf explained that electronic traffic cameras or Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (E-TLE) on non-toll elevated roads would be installed soon.
But unlike other E-TLE cameras, the unit thats will installed there are portable E-TLE cameras. "Yes, we will use portable cameras before permanent cameras are installed," Yusuf said when confirmed, Monday, February 3, 2020.
The portable E-TLE cameras will be placed in several other places deemed prone to violations. The cameras will be among the 45 E-TLE cameras that will be added by the police this year. "They have the feature for ticketing two-wheeled vehicles," said Yusuf.
The E-TLE marking system for motor vehicles is the same as that of cars. The procedure will see the police send a ticket to the address of the violator and give them 7 days to confirm the ticket. The police will also block the vehicle’s registration if the violator ignores the ticket and the violato should pay for the ticket through a bank within 7 days after confirmation.
The application of E-TLE to these two-wheeled vehicles will take place on Jalan Sudirman - Thamrin and Transjakarta Corridor 6, namely Ragunan - Dukuh Atas. The type of cameras used is also the E-TLE camera that is currently operating.
Since its inaugural operation on 1 February 2020, E-TLE has recorded 341 motorcycle riders violating regulations. "On the first day there were 167 violations, on the second day there were 174 violations, with a total of 341 violations for two days," said Fahri Siregar, the chief of the law enforcement sub-directorate of the Jakarta Police’s Traffic Directorate.
