E-ticketing System for Motorcycles Takes Effect Per Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police have enforced the electronic traffic law enforcement (E-TLE) or e-ticketing for motorcycle on two city's streets, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin and Jalan Raya Ragunan-Dukuh Atas or Corridor VI of Transjakarta Bus.
"The ticketing will begin on February 3, 2020," said Jakarta Police Chief of the Law Enforcement and Development Sub-Directorate Commissioner Fahri Siregar via a short message, as quoted by Tempo Newspaper today.
According to Fahri, the traffic violation on the streets equipped with the E-TLE cameras is still high. On the first day of the trial, the police recorded 167 bikers committing traffic violations.
As many as 88 violations include using Transjakarta Bus lane, which mostly occurred in Corridor VI reaching 55 violators.
"Other violations are riding without wearing a helmet," Fahri added.
Previously, Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Yusuf said the surveillance cameras will record traffic violations such as riding without a helmet, ignoring road signs or traffic lights and stop lines.
He added that the police will also ticket riders using a cellphone while driving.
Yusuf went on to say that the electronic ticketing system will only applies to vehicles with license plate B, given the police database. However, violators with other license plate will also be ticketed on the spot.
The police have installed 57 cameras for the e-ticketing system or E-TLE on Sudirman-Thamrin section. The surveillance cameras were also installed in the Transjakarta Corridor VI.
