TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Students from the National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM-SI) began to crowd the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta today, October 16, at 1:40 p.m.

The arriving students, who were still dozens in number, donned their respective alma mater jackets and one of them was seen raising a BEM SI flag.

The police have closed road access to the Merdeka Palace from Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. Hundreds of policemen were standing guard in the area. The police have also readied their vehicles, including a barracuda.

After the mass protest on October 8, BEM-SI staged yet another one today. They planned to voice the same demands: the revocation of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

“And urging the President to issue a Perpu (regulation in lieu of law),” said BEM-SI media coordinator Andi Khiyarullah on Thursday, October 15, 2020. He estimated that today’s rally would be joined by far more masses than the previous one. “It’s estimated to be more than 6,000,” he added.
