Manggarai Floodgate on Alert 3; 93 Cubic Meters of Waste Cleaned Up

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Environment Agency deployed 50 officers to clean up the waste that was swept along Ciliwung River to Manggarai floodgate in South Jakarta, Monday, October 5, 2020. The agency spokesperson Yogi Ikhsan said dozens of personnel were mobilized since the early hours of Monday.

“Until 8 a.m., we lifted 93 cubic meters of waste from Manggarai watergate,” said Yogi via a text to Tempo today.

Yogi explained that dozens of officers would stand guard in the area to prevent the pile of garbage at the watergate. At present, the agency prepared 15 trucks of various sizes and three heavy equipment to clean up waste.

“The current water level is quite high reaching 780 centimeters,” he said, adding that it was on alert level 3.

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded that 56 neighborhood units or RT were hit by floods today following heavy downpours late Sunday, confirmed the spokesperson Mohammad Insaf.

“Today’s flooding ranges at a height of 10 cm to 1.5 meters,” said Insaf in a statement. According to him, 257 residents were evacuated to Mushola Al Ma'muriah in East Cilandak Village and Al Ma'mur Mosque in Pejaten Timur Village, South Jakarta.
