TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video claiming to have recorded Chinese military uniforms being washed at a laundry service in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, went viral. The person recording narrated, “The Chinese communist soldier is laundering here at Kelapa Gading.”

However, Kelapa Gading Police Chief Comr. Rango Siregar on Monday clarified that the validity of the claims stated in the video could not be accounted for as no uniform was found in 42 laundry services in the area.

“As it turns out, there was no uniform as the video suggests,” said Rango said on Monday’s written statement.

The police also said the video maker had misidentified the language that was written on the so-called uniforms. As it turns out, police experts confirmed what was written on the uniforms were South Korean as opposed to Mandarin.

The Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Jakarta Police, Comr. Wirdhanto Hadicaksono, said the police were still hunting down the person who made the video and spread it online with the intent to stir problems by claiming the uniforms belonged to the Chinese military.
