Jokowi Issues Decree Naming COVID-19 National Disaster

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday officially ratified the presidential decree No.12/2020, naming the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 as a national disaster.

The decree states, “the non-natural disaster that is caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 as a national disaster.”

According to the decree, the efforts of national disaster mitigation is carried out by the task force for the accelerated handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to this, President Jokowi issued the presidential decree No.7/2020 on the acceleration of the country’s COVID-19 handling, which was changed to the presidential decree No.9/2020. The aforementioned decrees oblige regional heads to adhere to the Central Government’s orders in the process of constructing regional policies.
