TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the government had allotted Rp355 billion to build a memorial park in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The budget, he said, already includes the costs of building Beranda Nusantara.
Basuki said that the memorial park could be visited by state guests during the commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17. According to the minister, the memorial park will be developed as IKN does not yet have a national hero burial site.
"It (the memorial park) will be made like a museum showing the history of the capital transfer," said Basuki on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
Basuki said that a statue of Soekarno-Hatta would be built in the memorial park. Additionally, the memorial park also houses a statue depicting those of Guardian Wings and an eternal flame that burns using a gas energy source.
The memorial park is 2,034 square meters wide consisting of an altar area of 1,690 square meters and a stair access area of 344 square meters. President Jokowi led the groundbreaking for the project on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Jokowi previously said that the construction of the memorial park would be integrated with the Beranda Nusantara area, which would be a point of attraction in IKN for the general public and state guests.
"This place will always remind the Indonesian people of the heroes who fought to bring about Indonesian independence," said President Jokowi on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, quoted from a press release from the PUPR Ministry.
