TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is in the midst of composing a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court over the acquittal of former PLN president director Sofyan Basir.
KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said that their appeal mentions that Sofyan initially confessed of knowing about a money transfer taking place in the PLTU Riau-1 project. This is deemed by KPK as a crucial decision that was missed by the judge who acquitted the former graft suspect.
“[Sofyan Basir] was once informed about Eni’s intentions to obtain funds for political party activities,” said Febri on Tuesday.
KPK said that Sofyan confessed to it at his appearance in the court session of former House (DPR) energy commission, EniSaragih, who was sentenced to 6 years behind bars for accepting Rp4.7 billion worth of graft from Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo who has also been named guilty.
Sofyan Basir, according to the KPK spokesman, had known that Eni Saragih would accept a bribe in one of KPK’s investigations. This was also included in the official investigation report, however, Sofya Basir decided to retract his confession.
