TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan came out of his office and met the dozens of university students who were protesting in front of the KPK's Red and White Building in South Jakarta.

At that time, one student was making a speech rejecting the KPK Law revision. Suddenly, Novel came out of the main door, and headed to the platform.

"As a KPK employee, I thank you, my friends, for the support," Novel said on Thursday, September 12.

Novel said that combating corruption is a difficult job and that there have been many efforts to keep corruption practices alive.

"Any form of support, attention, or efforts to fight corruption is something that we protect," Novel said. He then asked the students to continue monitoring the KPK and support the fight against corruption.

"Long live students!" he exclaimed before going back inside the building.

The House of Representatives (DPR) had proposed changes to Law No.30/2002 on the KPK. There are several points in the revision that have drawn criticism, including the establishment of a KPK Supervisory Board, wiretapping rules, SP3 authority, KPK employee status, and requiring the recruitment of police investigators instead of independent ones. There is also an article requiring coordination with the attorney general's office.
