TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inactive regent of Pakpak Bharat, Remigo Yolanda Berutu, is indicted with eight years of prison time and a fine of Rp650 million—substitutable with six additional months in jail. The prosecutors also demanded Remigo to pay Rp1.2 billion in damages.

If he cannot pay for the damages, then it will be replaced with 30 months in prison.

"We also demand the defendant be revoked of his rights to be elected into public office for four years after the serving the basic sentence," KPK prosecutor Hendrik Fernandiz said in a hearing at the Medan District Court, Thursday, July 4.

Remigo is charged with receiving Rp1.6 billion in bribes from several colleagues through David Anderson Karosigus, acting chief of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office.

The purpose of the bribery is for Remigo to provide projects from Pakpak Bharat Public Works Department to government partners who are members of workgroups.

According to prosecutors, Rp720 million bribes came from Dilon Bacin, Banurea Cluster and Nusler Banurea. Remigo also allegedly received Rp580 million from Rizal Efendi Padang and Rp300 million from Anwar F Padang.
