TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sofyan Basir has officially stepped down from his position as the president director of state-owned electricity firm PLN on Wednesday, May 29. The resignation letter was approved during an extraordinary general shareholders meeting (RUPSLB) taking place in the Ministry of State-owned Enterprise (SOE).

“During the RUPS session, Pak Sofyan stepped down and the meeting approved. So, an acting head has been assigned today,” said the corporate spokesman Dwi Suryo Abdullah after the meeting.

Sofyan was previously deactivated from his position since April 23, 2019, as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him suspect. At that time, PLN board of commissioners tapped director of human capital management, Muhammad Ali, as the acting CEO for 30 days.

The meeting then assigned Djoko Rahardjo Abumanan as the acting head of PLN until the determination of a definitive chairman. However, Dwi claimed to have yet known when the next meeting would be held.

Sofyan Basir was named suspect by the anti-graft body for his assistance in the PLTU Riau-1 project graft case. The KPK suspected Sofyan of helping the deputy head of Energy Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR) Eni Saragih and received a bribe from the shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resources Ltd. Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo.
