TEMPO.CO, Gresik - State electricity company PT PLN has readied 1,299 public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations from Palembang, South Sumatra, to Banyuwangi, East Java, for this year's Eid homecoming travel period.
"Especially for this year's Eid homecoming travel, we readied 1,299 EV charging stations for those who travel by using electric cars," PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo said on Saturday, April 6.
He said that last year, travelers using electric cars had to look for specific rest areas equipped with EV charging stations, but this year, the charging stations have been installed at each rest area on the Palembang-Bakauheni, Merak-Jakarta, Cirebon-Semarang, Solo-Madiun-Surabaya, to Banyuwangi toll roads.
The distance between one rest area to another is 23 kilometers. Prasodjo underscored that on a single charge, electric cars can run for a distance of up to around 300 kilometers.
"Therefore, we hope that the conditions will be safe when people use electric cars for the exodus," he said.
PLN has readied the 123 call center for electric car users experiencing problems. The company has also prepared EV trip plans on the PLN Mobile application.slot88
"We have added the call center feature to be used when something happens with the electric car. Users can chat with our officers and we will immediately respond and send help when (users) run out of electricity in the middle of the journey and others," he added.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people are projected to participate in the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which is predicted to fall on April 10 this year.
The ministry has predicted that as many as 4,000 electric cars, or around 18 percent of the total electric cars in the country, will be used by travelers during this year's Eid homecoming period.
