TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo congratulated Emperor Naruhito on his ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne of Japan to replace his father Akihito who has been abdicated on Tuesday.
“My dearest congratulations for the ascent of Emperor Naruhito,” said Widodo in his Instagram post on Thursday, May 2.
The Indonesian president hopes that the arrival of the Reiwa era will continue to strengthen the strategic ties between Indonesia and Japan in terms of a harmonious international and regional partnership.
The president also acknowledged Akihito with his utmost praise for his dedication and major contributions to bridging the ties of the people of both countries and regional developments. This marks the end of the Heisei era that lasted three decades with Akihito.
