TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial administration would determine the extension period of the odd-even policy on Thursday, December 27.

The acting head of the city transportation agency, Sigit Wijatmoko, said the meeting regarding the policy would be settled after the city administration received recommendations from various parties.

“Tomorrow [Dec. 27], a decision will be made,” said Sigit in the field of National Monument (Monas), Wednesday, December 26.

Sigit explained the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan should ratify a new regulation if the odd-even policy is extended until 2019. Because, the Gubernatorial Decree No. 106 of 2018 on the odd-even traffic policy would last on December 31, 2018.

Jakarta Traffic Police Directorate, the Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ), and experts had discussed the matter and submitted suggestions to the city administration.

Those institutions wanted the policy to be prolonged in a bid to deal with the traffic congestion in the capital city. However, they suggested a modification on the new regulation, “including possible expansion of areas affected by the policy.”

Sigit opined the recommendation to extend the period of the odd-even policy was brought up following the increase in people using public transportation.
