Jakarta Plans to Expand Odd-Even Policy as Traffic Gets Heavier

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta government planned to expand the odd-even policy on the capital roads due to the increasing volume of vehicles. The city's Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said his side is evaluating the expansion of vehicle restrictions through the traffic system.

"We are evaluating it in order to expand to 25 roads," said Syafrin in Bidadari Island, Thousand Islands, Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

He informed that the 25 roads are stipulated in Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 88 of 2019 on the amendments to Gubernatorial Regulation No. 155 of 2018 concerning traffic restrictions by using the odd-even system.

Syafrin also emphasized that presently, the odd-even policy is still valid on 13 capital roads. 

In the third week of May 2022, the volume of vehicles increased by 6.2 percent compared to early March 2022. The number of passengers also jumped by 17.5 percent. "The traffic volume is getting higher," Syafrin said.
