TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is hoped to improve its infrastructure that will enable the country to further accommodate foreign yachters considering that around 3,000 yachts from overseas annually visit the country.
Most of the yachters sail from places as far as the United States, crossing through Hawaii, Fiji, Darwin and continue their journey to Australia. Meanwhile, yachts from the European continent cross Malaysia and Singapore. The yachters, also coming from New Zealand, Darwin, Australia, Oysterela, are usually joined in an event entitled Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

“However, considering the limited infrastructure, tourists sailing on yachts have a limited stay duration in Indonesia,” said Rally Organizer Raymond Timotius Lesmana at the Cruise Gili Mas harbor in Lembar, West Lombok on Wednesday, September 19.
Raymond hopes that Indonesia, notably known as a home to 16,000 islands, can be enjoyed by yachters for an extended time period and not just make Indonesia as a place to pass by.
According to a passenger of one of the yachts Syl Samara II, Diana Gorch from the U.S. and Scottish Michael Foote (from Scotland) on the Romano yacht revealed that they enjoyed their brief visit to Lombok and Sumbawa. “It was beautiful and fantastic. We were welcomed everywhere,” said Foote.
Meanwhile, Diana Gorch stated that she was not worried about the earthquake threats at the regions in the vicinity of Lombok; “It doesn’t matter if a quake strikes. The nature is astonishing.”
