Report: Papua Still Has Biggest Malaria Patients in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Province remains the province with the highest number of Malaria patients in Indonesia, according to a report.
Ni Nyoman Antari, an official at Papua Health Agency said at least 43 people out of 100 people suffer from the disease in the province, while at the national level, malaria patients reach 27 people out of 100 people.
According to Antari, in 2013, the number of malaria patients in Papua was 81 people out of 100 people but in 2014, the number dropped to 43 people out of 100 people.
Several regions in Papua, especially in low-lying areas and in coastal areas are malaria endemic areas. In the meantime, in mountainous areas, the biggest number of malaria patients is found in Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo regency.
Antari further said that from all regions in Papua, the biggest malaria patient is found in Mimika regency.
