TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will begin building Trans Sumatera toll road in the southern region in late April 2015. The toll road segments that will begin development are Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar-Kayu Agung Palembang.

“The groundbreaking by President Joko Widodo will be conducted in late April,” said Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono on Sunday.

According to Basuki, Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar-Kayu Agung Palembang segments are 158 kilometers long and will be finished in the next three to five years.

Basuki claimed that there is no obstacle in land acquisition. The government has provided budget for land acquisition in the 2015 state budget. “In the Budget Execution Document (DIPA), there is around Rp6 trillion for land acquisition,” he said.

Medan–Binjai and Pekanbaru–Kandis toll road segments have also begun development and are expected to finish in 2017.
