TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Ali Nurdin, one of the lawyers representing the General Elections Commission (KPU), pointed out three conclusions drawn from the pleas submitted by Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa’s camp.
“The first is related to an allegation of misconduct in the recapitulation process. The second is related to an allegation that the election was legally defective, and the last one is related to a claim of structured, systematic and massive fraud in the election,” Ali said on Monday, August 18, 2014, after a trial of the presidential election dispute case at the Constitutional Court.
According to Ali, the KPU has provided the counter-argument related to each allegation. In terms of the alleged misconduct of recapitulation, the KPU has submitted ballots taken from polling stations as evidence.
Secondly, in response to the accusations of conducting legally defective election, Ali said the KPU had followed recommendations from the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) as proven by statement letters issued by both institutions.
In relation to the allegation of structured, massive and systematic fraud in the election, Ali said none of Prabowo-Hatta’s witnesses said that the election committee had committed such fraud.
“There was a report that the Polling Station Working Committee in Sragen had tampered with the ballots. But they have been removed and a re-election was conducted. So, what else?” Ali said.
