TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has refused to give Zumi Zola a justice collaborator status. Zumi, the inactive governor of Jambi, is a defendant in a graft and bribery case

"We cannot accept it," KPK prosecutor Airin Karnia Sari said when reading the indictment in today's hearing at the Central Jakarta Court, November 8.

The prosecutor demanded an eight-year jail sentence for Zumi as well as a Rp1-billion fine and a revocation of the defendant's political rights for five years.

Airin said that the KPK cannot give Zola a justice collaborator status since he is most accountable for the bribery practice during the ratification of the Jambi provincial budget (APBD) for the 2017 and 2018 fiscal years.

Additionally, Airin said that Zumi's testimonies have not been significant enough to help expose the case.

Meanwhile, Zumi's lawyer Farizi said that the defense will study the KPK's decision.

In the previous hearing, Zumi Zola requested a justice collaborator status. He claimed that he had helped expose the bribery case, as well as the MO used and threats made by Jambi's DPRD members in order to get the bribe.
